It tells the story of Pecola, a young, Black girl who prays for her eyes to turn blue so that she will be beautiful. It illustrates socially constructed ideals of beauty — and ugliness. It reveals the dangers of social standards and how proximity to whiteness not only determines how beautiful you are, but your social and economic status as well. Available in three scents, this candle represents a Black girl’s journey to loving herself in a world where she is constantly erased.
