One boring afternoon in 2019 I stumbled upon a podcast on SoundCloud called Bitchface and was struck by this thoughtful, curious, sonic collage. The episode “Whose Imagination Are You Living In?”, the query itself and the worlds I imagined while listening to this episode, took me on a deep dive into examining my life and my relationships with people and my values. The question kinda tied a bunch of thoughts I was already having about the imperialist capitalist Abrahamic cis hetero patriarchal society I live in and the radical Black imagination together.
Follow up questions I’ve been thinking about since, I invite you to do the same… What is the role of imagination? What does success feel like? What stories am I telling myself about myself, my family, my community and why? Where/when did I learn/see the habits I’m unlearning today? What would it look like to self-examine without shame?
The print is made with watercolor 300gsm paper, ink and acrylic paint and measures 9×12 inches. A multimedia syllabus will be released soon to encourage more thoughts and tickle your curiosity. Stay tuned on insta @plus_237.
