Beaux, a Whippet-Lab mix, was adopted in 2017 from Last Chance Animal Rescue by one of my sisters. My first “nephew” is the light of my world and although I used to roll my eyes at people who dress up and accessorize their fur babies in clothes, I too, wanted to obnoxiously accessorize him, but in something that was made more for the culture. All you see are plaid, flannel, and paisley in big brand stores and on Etsy. Nothing that represents Black and people of color!
Late in 2019, I bought a few fabrics & prints from Black-owned shops around DC & MD. I decided to try my hand at bow ties and bandanas for Beaux, and my other puppy nephews, Diesel, Dunkin, Maestro, & T’Challa. I’d like to thank their humans, for letting their fur babies be my models and for pushing me to share my hobby with you all. And a very special thank you to Jennifer K. who made the logo, you can follow her on Instagram @doodles_of_dogs.
